Ninefold Scottish Oak
It was a great honour to be asked by head distiller Kit Carruthers to contribute the art work for their Scottish Oak Cask Rum. The project started with a trip down to the beautiful Dormont Estate where Ninefold Distillery sits nestled amongst beautiful old farm buildings, the stunning family home of the Carruthers family, and land that is teaming with abundant wildlife and greenery.
There were a few elements that were key to the illustration, requested by Kit, including the Oak trees some of which were used to make the casks. Wild strawberry plants, Swallows, a woodpecker, the huge Wellingtonia which guards the house, and most importantly, Watson the handsome Distillery cat.
I contributed pen and ink drawings of single Oak leaves which were used on the packaging, labeling, and wax seal, and also laser cut into Oak boxes and coasters for the special editions. I also drew a complete illustration including all of the requested elements which is included with the bottle. I latterly adapted the Illustration to create a limited edition lino print to be included with the first few bottles sold.
